"Before pursuing a career in IT, I was a bartender for over six years. It was good money and there was rarely a dull moment, however there was little job security and even fewer benefits. I don’t think I ever bartended anywhere that actually offered health insurance. There is not a lot of room to grow in that field and I did not want to turn into a 40 year old bartender ten years from now.
I’ve been proficient with computers since junior high, but before taking this course, I had no formal education in Information Technology, let alone any certifications. I thought that I knew a lot, but the depth this course consisted of was more than I could have imagined or hoped for. I’ve always enjoyed working with computers and software; I just never had a chance to get paid for doing such. This course has given me the tools, skills, and recognition to do just that.
My biggest fear before entering this program was not being able to understand or grasp some of the concepts covered. Thankfully my instructor quickly settled that concern with his ability to teach and explain complicated concepts clearly and in detail. I was also very concerned with being able to find a job after graduating the course. The career services department had me placed in an IT position within two weeks after the class ended.
Now, in my current position, my income has increased over 40% from my last job thanks to the training I received and the certifications I’ve attained. I work for a large cooperation as a Network Engineer and I love every minute of it. There is no ceiling to hinder how far up I can go. Five years ago I would never have believed that I could be doing what I love to do and be getting paid for it. It was very frightening to make such a drastic career change, but it has definitely paid off.
This program is fast paced and requires time and dedication in order to succeed. It is by no means easy, but if you are adamant about studying and learning current computer technologies, there is no limit to where you can take your career. If I can do it, certainly anyone with determination can."
