I had been playing around with computers as a hobby since “DOS” was the best thing since color TV. So I looked into an IT course that would give me an education and not tie up two years of my life learning how to click “Start” to shutdown. In my quest to succeed I worked hard to complete the course, with the reward being the first MCSE in the class and Perfect Attendance. After completing the course I was determined to land a position in the IT field right smack in the middle of a recession. Through determination, desire, and hard work I was offered a position working on the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) project for EDS (Electronic Data Systems).

The next six months of class was the most challenging endeavor I have ever encountered. Our instructor was fantastic. Everything we did was hands on. He shared real life experiences in the field along with the book instructions and walked you through the labs step by step. I was surprised at the feeling of accomplishment and pride in myself I felt every time I passed an exam. And if I did not pass the exam the first time, I was more determined to pass the second time. Then Kmart emerged from bankruptcy, but needed to downsize and so I was laid off.
